How can we help?

What happens if I get a ticket or fine during my rental?

If you receive a parking ticket, speeding fine, toll charge, or any other traffic-related penalty while using the rental car, you’re responsible for paying it, even if you’ve already returned the vehicle.

  1. If you pay it yourself

You can often pay on the spot (for parking) or online (for speeding or tolls). If you do this during your rental, no extra action is needed.

  1. If you don’t pay it during the rental

The rental company will likely receive the fine later from the authorities. They’ll then charge your credit card for the amount owed, along with an administration fee, typically between €20 and €50.

  1. You’ll be notified

You’ll usually receive an email or letter from the rental company explaining the charge. This may take several weeks, depending on the country.

Tip: If you get a ticket while the car is still in your possession, it’s often cheaper and easier to pay it right away. Ask the rental desk for help if you’re unsure how to handle it.
